EP appoints first CEO

27 February, 2023 EP News

Monday 27 February

Today, the Steering Committee is very pleased to be able to announce a significant milestone for the Equator Principles.

In late 2022, the EPA commenced a recruitment process to appoint our first CEO to deliver our work plan for the next 3 years. This role will form a key part of our move towards a more sustainable structure that will support the ongoing development of the EPs, and which befits an organisation of nearly 140 global financial institutions.

After a global search, aided by recruitment partners, Acre, we can now announce that Max Griffin, who currently leads the E&S Team at UK Export Finance (UKEF), has been appointed. He remains in his current position until May 2023, and will begin his work for the EPA on 22nd May.

The calibre of the candidates presented by Acre was very high – some from within the EPFI community as well as from consultancy firms and various international bodies. However, it was clear to the selection panel that Max was the outstanding candidate. Of particular note were the depth of his E&S management experience from both consulting roles and at UKEF; his proven leadership skills, including for the EPA where he has been on the Steering Committee for several years and led the Scope Working Group through the EP4 update process, and the active and engaged role that he takes in the wider E&S community. He has a very strong track record of negotiating and working with diverse partners including global clients, as well as other regulatory bodies, government boards etc.

“I am delighted to accept the new role of CEO for the EPA. As the 20th anniversary of the EPs arrives it is a time to celebrate as well as to look ahead and plan for the future of the EPs. I am excited to take on the CEO role, serving the Chair, Steering Committee and all EPFIs, as together we expand and professionalise the Association. I look forward to supporting and enhancing the huge amount of voluntary time and expertise that has established the EP brand and global reputation, as well as their ongoing usability and effectiveness in managing environmental and social risk.”

“After a thorough global search I am pleased to announce on behalf of the EP Steering Committee Max’s appointment as the Equator Principles CEO.  I have worked with Max for many years and know he has the skills, enthusiasm and commitment to lead the Equator Principles.  This is particularly exciting as the Equator Principles celebrate their 20-year anniversary in 2023 and as we look forward to next phase of our growth.”

The Steering Committee is excited to see begin this new chapter in the development of the EPA, and we look forward to working closely alongside Max.
